Body shape is influenced by a combination of genetics, hormones, bone structure, muscle mass, and the way fat is naturally distributed throughout the body. Features such as a fuller chest, wider hips, a narrower waist, and greater fat distribution around the thighs and buttocks may contribute to a body shape that is typically perceived as more feminine.
For FTM trans men, testosterone can gradually change muscle mass and body fat distribution, creating a more masculine body contour over time. However, hormone therapy does not significantly change established skeletal proportions in adults, and some areas of fat or excess tissue may remain despite hormonal changes, exercise, or weight management.
The degree to which these features are noticeable varies considerably between individuals. Genetics, age, body composition, hormone therapy, and natural anatomy can all influence overall body proportions and how masculine or feminine the body is perceived to appear.
