Protruding ears usually develop because of differences in the shape, position, or development of the ear cartilage. In some people, the natural fold of the outer ear is less defined, while in others, the cartilage near the ear canal may be more prominent, causing the ears to project further from the sides of the head.
Genetics can play an important role, and prominent ears may run in families. The condition is generally present from childhood and does not usually indicate a medical problem or affect hearing, although the degree of prominence and symmetry can vary between the two ears.

Treatments that address this
It may be worth seeking professional advice when protruding ears significantly affect facial balance, symmetry, or confidence. For children, assessment may also be considered once the ears have developed sufficiently, while adults can seek treatment at any age if the appearance continues to be a concern.
